Customs documents are an essential part of shipping packages internationally and Parcel Monkey make collecting this important information as easy as possible by including it in the booking process. However, it is the responsibility of the sender to print and attach the customs documents and shipping label to the package before it is picked up by the courier or dropped off at the Post Office.
We offer a full overview of how to complete the customs documents correctly before you get to the stage of printing.
Printing your customs documents
Customs documents are available to print off from your Parcel Monkey account, plus you will be sent an email with a link to download and print them off. It is best to print off 3 copies, as during transit customs officers may remove a copy before the package is sent on. Another good idea, in case the customs documents come off in transit, is to slip an extra copy inside the package.
How do I attach the customs documents to the box?
Customs documents must be securely fastened to the outside of your box. This is so customs officers can check what is being sent and the value of the goods, to calculate how much duty may or may not be owed.
- The best thing to do is use a 'documents enclosed' pouch which is designed to be attached to a box for shipping packages.
- A clear plastic wallet or envelope is also suitable as long as it is taped down so the customs documents don't move in transit.
- Standard envelopes taped down to the side of the package with 'Customs' written on the outside of the envelope are also acceptable, but please ensure it's not obstructing any barcodes on the shipping label.
